Saltburn Pier, Long ExposurePosted by Rhys (Darlington, United Kingdom) on 26 March 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. A 30 second exposure taken on Sunday evening. It was pitch black, blowing a gale and absolutely freezing. This shot does not show the sea as it really was- ROUGH! The waves were large rollers crashing up onto the beach and shingle, a very stormy scene. In the morning we awoke to snow, it was an extremely cold day- just the right circumstances for standing on a northern beach trying to experiment with long exposures. I only managed to take 5 shots before I had to run for cover to avoid a hail storm. The irony is that the result is quite serene and calm, the exposure has totally rendered the waves flat and the moving clouds have semi-softened the sky. Roll on summer.
