Both Redcar and Saltburn have these amazing tractors which pull the small boats up the beach. How on earth they manage to run I don't know, they appear to be cobbled together with bits of string, cardboard and sackcloth. PS. Thanks to everybody who has been visiting and commenting recently- I really do appreciate it- Thank you! I am caught up in DIY and decorating this weekend, so if I don't respond to people's comments then I'm probably otherwise engaged with a roller/brush. I still have images to post, I just may not be so swift in my responses or posting comments on other peoples blogs. Now where's that sandpaper...

A very powerful image, I like the contrast between the tractor on the sand/sea/sky background - they seem detached!

Amazing b/w shot, well taken.

Thank you for your comment on my photoblog.Has you could see I use always color but I must say: YOUR BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS, LIKE THIS WORK FORCE, ARE SUPERB! congratulations
12 Apr 2008 3:19am
@QUIM: cheers! I must admit I really do prefer b/w, colour sometimes 'gets in the way' (for me anyway). Although I have a couple of colour shots coming up over the next few days (unless I decide to convert them to mono!!).
Powerful black and white, nicely contrasted. And wide angle is clearly adding force to the whole composition.

@zOOm: thanks- another plus of the 5D means that with the Full Frame wide really is wide.
As always a great shot. The tractor looms in the forground and yet another great sky.

A friend of mine (QUIM) drew my attention to your photoblog. It seems to me that you belong to the current trend in British Photography (it's not hard to find out your nationality, but I mean the style, the themes). Very creative. As with regard to the present image, this is a powerful one.

@António Pires: thank you- that means a lot.
It's a cracking shot Rhys. Brilliant processing.

What a terrific image. You could say this was taken on the surface of the moon and I would probably believe you.
12 Apr 2008 10:55am
@Oswegan: Ah! I think you've described Redcar perfectly, it has several similarities with the Moon- alien, cold, lifeless and scattered with litter left by visitors!!
wow! its perfect! i'll buy one of these! :D

Brilliant photo, did you use a filter (IR) or is it all done in postprocessing?
12 Apr 2008 4:06pm
@Wysterior: No IR filter- this was taken on a really sunny morning (about 9.30am) the sun was at 90 degrees to the tractor - so the sky was really quite blue. I just used the b/w adjustment layer conversion in CS3 and added a curved adjustment layer to boost some of the contrast.
Love the black sky, makes special atmosphere!

Great shot, it looks like a movie frame, simply perfect in making people feeling the alien atmosphere. Rests of a civilization. Wonderful photo, perfectly captured, framed and valued.
